Went out to Blackmans Lake for the first time in my pontoon boat. There was no problem finding the lake as it was surrounded by a lot of roads and 2 parks on different ends of the lake. The lake is about 60 acres. But anyway....man, what a great day it was. After I launched the pontoon boat i went out about 20 feet from shore and cast out my lucky black woolybugger. I've never been skunked on this lure, which seems to be the only one thats done that. I rowed only a few feet and I got my first strike. Wasnt a ' fish on ' but it was definitely a strike. I continued my way to the other end of the lake where a bunch of lily pads were. It looks like a bass fishing area but it isnt really. As soon as i got there i get this big strike on my line! I set the hook and it fought for like 2 or 3 minutes, then i finally brought it in the net and luckily i got it in time because the hook came out. It was a 16 inch rainbow. Nice size and of course, I kept it. I rowed around there some more hoping for another big strike like this one. Nothing. So i rowed around the whole lake and didnt get anything for about a half hour. Then on my second trip around the lake i get another fish on. I bring it to the net and it was only a 9 incher. Kept that one too because i didnt know what was to be expected. As soon as i start rowing again, I get my third fish on, and also brought that one too the net. It was a small 7 incher but a very acrobatic and good fighter. Released it to see it next year when it would be bigger. I continued fishing some more and nothing for awhile. Then an hour passes and I get a fourth fish on. Lost it but it didnt feel that big anyway. Then i eventually reach the lilypad area again, and BAM! This one was an even bigger one than my 16 incher. It put up a great fight and i saw it up at the surface. Its head was thicker than both of my fish together and had to be 20+ inches. I go to net it then it jumps like 5 feet in the air and goes back down and breaks my line. I was pissed. That was the biggest one i've ever seen but now I'll never know how big because my line broke! And not only was that why i was mad. The fish took my lucky woolybugger with him. :( Oh well i was still satisfied with my 2 fish and I can just get another woolybugger. Left the lake at quarter till 3 but absolutely coming back to catch the big one that got away......
