Fished Baker Lake for the first time Tuesday. I was trolling a wee Dick Nite (see photo) behind a 1oz. egg sinker. 6lb mainline, 3lb 10' leader. (i love that Berkley Micro Ice , tough as nails, clear as glass. .007 in. dia) i was gunning for the kokanee, but didn't get any. i did manage one 10-11'' cutthroat. it was funny, i just had my line dangling over the side of the boat because i was dealing with a 25" chinook!!(my PB). that's right, a salmon. now I'm not 100% sure, but i really don't think it was a cutthroat (it had a black mouth.) i didn't even know they had chinook salmon in baker lake. Anyway, i would have to say easily the best fight of my life, 7-8lb salmon on 3lb test and a medium light rod. WHAT A RUSH. i have the entire 39 minute video if anyone wants to see it. It had an adipose fin, and over 18" (the regs on baker), so back he went. i just know that it was no kokanee...
water was 59*. trolled about 1.5mph on the east shore. both fish hit about 7-8pm. I'm definitely going back soon.
