Arrived at Clear Lake around 1000 am. Slight breeze out of the west, northwest around 5mph. Overcast until around 130 pm. Water temp right around 65F.
Earlier in the week I tied up some woolly buggers, so I decided to try them out. Trolled around the north and east edges of the lake. Caught 8 rainbows anywhere from 12" to 14", lost 5 fish before I got them to the boat, and caught two fish I couldn't readily identify. They looked like bass...but lacked the lateral line of a large mouth, but also lacked the vertical stripes and coloration of a small mouth. Had a black vertical stripe at the end of their tail. Could have been rock bass...biggest rock bass I've seen...about 13" long, right around a pound. Whatever they were...put up a decent fight on a fly rod.
Fish stopped biting after skiers started bombing up and down the lake. Left around 400 pm.
All in all...it was a good day.
