I was "low censused" at work meaning not enough work to have all of us there and I was the unfortunate one asked to stay home....in a way though I get an extra day off.....in another, my paycheck is a shift short. So since they called me at 4:55am I decided to take the pontoon up to Horseshoe. I got there later than I wanted to, I got on the wate about 7:40 and knew from the previous trip that there was top action around 6:30-7:00a. I trolled heading north from the launch up the west side and got a bite using a Carey but couldnt set the hook. Stopped by the falls and waded up the creek to get some pictures, I guess someone named it Exley Falls...there was a dedication sign. I decided to try the back water and man was the channel full of weeds! It made rowing difficult and I wouldnt dare try kicking through it. Didnt hit anything again until around 9:30 after changing to a Lenore Lake Special that I picked up at Clark's in Colville. The photo doesnt get the color right, for some reason my camera doesnt get the colors right on some materials. The photo shows it as a yello midsection and its actually supposed to be a neon green. I boated a small rainbow, about 9" and released it. This was just north of the outlet. There was some other people fishing back there, mostly looked lik they were bass fishing in the weedy areas. I decided to troll back around the way I came and head back to the launch. And of course when I got to the northern most part of the lake the wind kicked up and was very troublesome for rowing. The launch was pretty busy with a few kayakers, swimmers, and a couple boaters launching. I believe in previous the best time is right at sunset until sundown, so maybe I'll try this lake again later this fall.

We were the guys bass fishing- only caught bluegill and pumpkinseed. The 'Seed was a fat one, about the size of a salad plate and eating well. I'm glad to hear that someone caught a trout! My friend in the boat with me was saying there were no fish in the lake. Is there usually better action in the deeper section of the lake? Those weeds were NASTY!

I usually have had good luck trolling the north west side (side with all the houses)...about 1/3 of the distance from shore....there is a short window when they top, usually around 6:30-7:30am and 6:00-8:00pm. when I very first fished the lake it was in the fall I was hitting them left and right starting about an hour or so before sundown using a montana stonefly and just trolling up and down that area.....
