Dennis and I met Mike at the lake around 9:00 a.m. and joined up on the water. The day was clear, high of 88 degrees with a light SW wind 5-10 mph. The surface temperature ranged from 70-74 degrees and the water was clear. I was surprised as to the number of adult damsels hovering over the water. This amount of damsel activity is usually in June. Again, everything about this summer is a month late due to the long winter and spring.
We proceeded to the north end of the lake. On the way up, I noticed that the fish were hanging at about 20-25 ft. The thermocline was at about 25 ft. The bottom temperature at 37 ft. was 54 degrees. The temperature that most of the fish were laying at was 62 degrees.
Most of the fish were caught in about 20-25 ft of water using a black soft hackle. I picked up a couple with a Pheasant Bug. All of the fish were very active, jumping several times and giving a good fight. Most were in the 17-18" range. All fish were released and all swam away quickly without any sign of exhaustion.
The bite slowed considerably around 4 p.m. so we called it a day. Dennis took the honors today with a 30+ fish day and I caught about 10 with several getting off the hook and two break offs.
