Took My Wife and Son out on the lake tonight to get some bass fishing in. We launch just past the Spokane House at Nine Mile. Very hot and we had a tough time catching fish. My wife caught the first one with a jig and chartreuse grub. It swam out from under a dock and hit it on the retrieve. We were about 15 minutes away from leaving when I took the advise from WA Lakes to burn a rat-l-trap (off a point) and got myself a small mouth as well. The real fun part was it was my son's first time to see a live fish!! We put him in the live well and he was enamored with him. I would have ranked it a one if not for the fun my son had!!! Any tips for late evening fishing? We were there from 6-8pm. Also saw a snorkeler off the launch and he said he saw a bunch of huge smallmouth SPAWNING on the flats. Is there any way this could be true? So late in the year!!

It's always fun taking the misses and kid out on the lake. How old is your son? My wife and I just had a little boy a month ago, and although he has been out fishing with me from the bank, he hasn't been interested in the fish yet - He likes watching the big shapes ( trees, clouds, etc) So I can't wait for him to be stoked about seeing a fish!

Have you tried wacky riggin a worm? Always my go to for smallies in the evening.

I doubt that the smallmouth were spawning, but they may have been schooled up. This is pretty normal for small mouths, and often if a second person flips a lure back at a hooked smb, a second trailer fish will nail it.

Nice bass, but I have to compliment your shirt! (I'm a GU grad. *ha*)

thanks for the info I will try wacky rigging that sounds good. My son is almost 3 and all he talks about is fishing on the water. He will cast his jig (minus hook) with orange double tail for hours and won't want to go to bed! I did not go to Gonzaga but we always root for them in everything.
