Well got to the lake about 7pm and it was pretty warm out. There was a family already there with the husband who had just launched his float tube, three kids at the bank, and the wife watching over them. I was fine with sharing the shore as I was mostly out to get away from the wife and kid after spending 8hrs straight with them running errands in Spokane. I hadn't been to this lake since earlier this season. Nobody was catching anything, included the guy fly fishing from the float tube. They all left around 8pm just as the sun hit the horizon, and of course that was when the fish were topping out my the lily pads on the west end. They were just grazing the top of the surface water, pretty lazily. There was a lot turtles out and about. Someone had thrown a couple ears of corn in the water and a turtle was happily munching on it. I didn't get any bites bottom fishing so i decided to switch to a bobber. It wasn't until I took all the additional weight off, and then added orange glittery powerbait to my worm, about 1.5-2 feet from the bobber, that I got my first bite. It was a 7" rainbow that seemed rather hungry considering it had started swimming off with my bobber in tow. It was slightly bleeding when I got the hook out and pretty exhausted but eventually swam off on its own. I re-rigged with worm and some orange powerbait around the eye of the hook again. No sooner than the bobber hit the water and I had started to tighten up the line, the bobber vanished, i felt a good tub and set the hook only to reel in a 4" bullhead. I caught two more trout and two more bullhead before the mosquitos were too much to bare even after putting on insect repellent. The largest trout was about 10" and the bullhead were about 4-5". I noticed the difference when the two types would hit.....the bullhead would just take the bobber down and it would stay down and the trout would make the bobber bob up and down. I left a little after 9pm. And man was this place clean compared to the last times I've been there. I only saw one beer can and an empty cigarette pack. Oh and I did catch the last fish which was a bullhead on just powerbait as I ran out of worms. Those of you buying worms in Deer Park....get them from the Chevron near the highway, there is a big difference in quality compared with what you get at Levi's....I haven't looked anywhere else.
