First time fishing this lake, usually head to Matoon as it is closer. Started by working the west side of lake trolling Mac's wedding ring and squidder without much success... a few small bites. Started working the east side with the same and started getting into them. Lots of small large mouths, about 8-10 average length... didn't bother to weigh them. It didn't seem to matter what we trolled or threw at them, a fish about every 5 minutes. Ended up with 48 fish (all released) in about 3 hours. Largest of about 18 inches... maybe 3lbs. threw off a crankbait at the transom of the boat. All nice looking, porky fish with good fight to them.
One of the few days in the valley with almost no wind, so easy fishing. Water was fairly clear with visibility to about 8 feet. Not much boat activity on the lake...only ones floating. A few shore anglers and didn't see them catching anything. Tried a few surface lures without much success. Mostly subsurface with a lot of speed to them... fast retrieve, but not waking them. Lures used: cranks-mostly action using a crawdad pattern. spinner bait: small white. macs wedding ring: pink or red. macs squidder: pink
