My wife & I decided to bag the races and hit Lost for the afternoon. Packed up the dogs and we were off. Sunny & Windy when we got there, talked to a couple people who said fishing was slow. The water level is down about 10' from my last visit (3 weeks ago). Fished from the 1st point at the left of the boat launch. Tried different lures and setups for about an hour. I hooked up the 1st one on PB, wrapped around something so I had to snap the line. Then my wife hooked into one on worm & orange corkie - same thing wrapped & snapped. So I reset her rig and not 5 minutes later, she's got fish on. 12" brookie, got it in and it has her lost rig wrapped around it, plus another hook, so I took our gear back and let him go. Re-rigged her worm & corkie and right off she hooked into a 17" trip. So I set up the same rig for myself and got an 18" trip, then a 15" holdover & my wife got another little one. We were there form 3 to 6pm but all fish caught in about 1.5 hours (around 4:00-5:30pm). The funny thing was all of the hardware these fish had hooked into them! Like whole rigs!!
Final count:
2 trips 17 & 18" - kept
1 Holdover RB 15" - kept
1 Brookie 12" - released
1 fingerling - released
1 corkie, hook & swivel rig - lost & returned
2 corkies (new to me)
4 hooks (new to me)
2 swivels (new to me)

No pics this time - forgot the camera.

I forgot to ask... with the water 10' down, would you say the shoreline was more accesible than it was before? Was the water out of the bushes?

Yeah, it was out of the bushes for the most part, though I didn't go to the west side to check it out, so I don't know how far out on that end. On the east end (from what I could see) you could navigate shoreline for a couple hundred yards on each side of the boat launch before being blocked by something. Though it is slow going as you will have to jump logs and is is pretty steep in spots. To get to the point where we were yesterday you basically had to walk logs all the way - but the logs were on dry ground. It is still not low enough to see the little island in the boat launch cove though.

This used to be my favorite secret lake. But there has been so much publicity this year and with high gas prices the lake has been over run with people. With the new found pressure Lost lake is getting its even more important we do things to protect this fishery. So people please read the regs. The limit is 5 but only one over 14" may be retained.

I go to this lake several times a year and every time I'm there is at least one poacher like this one. Could you imagine how good the fishing would be in this state if these individuals where arrested and lost the license for 3 years. It doesn't do us any good to catch and release if someone else comes in behind us and takes more then there legal limit. For every one that reads and follows the regs thank you and may the fish gods be good to you.

A little harsh accusing someone of poaching. Yes maybe we all need to know the regs of lakes in the area, but you are slandering someone who many people admire. Maybe your halo is a little tight but you should never assume the worst in someone, maybe point out the regs but don't flat out accuse anybody. A bitter pill goes along a way, someone trying to avoid the inner city doldrum to get away and relax and you burn him on a cross, not to cool, hope you find some happiness to fill your void of anger

What would the local game warden call it. Maybe before you post a report that others read for advice you should make sure your giving the correct advice. As you can see there are at least 5 people that read this report and think that its ok to keep more than 1 fish over 14 inches. I am a very happy fisherman. I just don't look at it lightly when someone you all admire gives you incorrect information. Personally I admire game wardens for what they fight for and all parents that teach there children that the ethics of fishing is as important as catching fish. Not someone that doesn't read the regs before going to a new lake and keeps more than allowed.

1st, let me apologize - I re-read the regs and you are correct. I should've thrown that last one back. I didn't realize this was a 1 over 14" lake as it has never come up before fishing there. It may be a lame defense for you gon2fsh, but that is all I got, I made a mistake, I admit it, it wont happen again. Had there been a warden there, you are right, I probably would have been ticketed. Though I am guessing that leniency would have been made when he found me with those fish in one hand and the big garbage bag full of trash picked up from the bank in the other. Now does picking up garbage give me the right to band the rules. No, but it does show that I care about the lake and the fishery as I pull a garbage bag full of trash out of that lake very time I go (and yes, this year has been horrible to that lake). Also, I've stated before on this site that I release 90% of what I catch, given the fact that I fish 2-3 times a week, that is a lot of fish. As far as my character, or what type of fisherman I am - that is for each person on this site to decide. OH, and if a warden does read this, and feels I deserve a ticket - PM me, I'm not hard to find, and we can work something out.

Thanks for the explanation and apology. Picking up garbage, Now thats the fishing ethics I spoke of. I wish more people were like you. Its a big battle keeping up with the litter. But that's a whole other subject. good luck out there.

Hey Gringo, thanks for picking up the trash out there. I was there for an hour or so with my kids on Saturday and had a hard time explaning to them why people would throw trash into such a beautiful lake. A lot of it was submerged beer cans. Next time I'll bring a trash bag and get the kids in on helpin' clean up the place. We didn't catch anything casting spinners, but we did snag a corkie, hook & swivel rig. Guess I should have used it instead of throwing it into the tackle box.
