I've read many reports on this site and appreciate people willing to share info/ideas about different lakes, so I decided to "join the club" and do a little reporting as well!
I took my 4yo son, brother in law, and 4yo nephew to Sammamish for a 1/2 day of perch. After several lone "recon" missions over the past month, I've found a couple areas that consistently produce perch over 8 1/2".
Long story short, we caught a bunch of fish on the south end of the lake. We kept 27 perch and 2 crappie, all over 8 1/2" and threw back another 40-50 smaller ones. Enough to keep the kids busy anyway. The highlight of the trip was hooking a small perch, handing the rod to my son to reel it in, and having a nice LMB inhale the perch (photo attached). I didn't have a scale, but am guestimating it be around 6 lbs. We landed the bass on 4 lb test/ultralight gear and it was never actually hooked; it simply would not spit out that perch! Needless to say, it was released.
As far as bait/presentation; we were using jigs of all colors, mostly 1/32-1/16. White curlytails worked well, and so did red and white fly-type jig. Tipped with worm or perch meat. We'd anchor up over structure (18-22 feet deep) and bounce jigs of the bottom.
Now that I'm a member, I'll report more often and thanks to all that do the same.
Matt
