Hit Black Lake (Thurston Co.) 9:30am. 3 adults, 12 ft PortaBote. Beautiful weather. Flat calm until the pleasure boats woke up about 11:00. Took home 5 trout, all over a pound to a pound and a half.
They were hitting wedding rings. Mine was black and chartreuse, with Shoe Peg corn. But they were hitting nightcrawlers too on a flasher. Met Stan from the WDFW, a marine biologist. Told us where the hot spots were. Real nice guy. We'll definitely be going back. Going to get there early next time. Sure wish the skiers wouldn't go between us and the shore. We were probably 100 to 150 feet off shore.
Don't know the water temp but we did best trolling the south end of the lake along the west shore. Slow troll in about 15 to 20 foot depth. Fished a few feet off the bottom. There's a house with a couple foot high white trellis fencing at the water's edge. Troll from there heading north. Then turn around and troll back. You'll get 'em. Good luck.
