Went out to the flushing channel that leads into the lake about 1 mile north of the lake. Put my line in the water at 1500, used a piece of freezer burned trout on a #6 treble on 6lb test on a 1/2 ounce slip sinker, and was hoping for some little Brown Bullheads. After 20minutes soaking, my pole doubled over and 15 minutes later I landed this monster 25.5 inch, 8 lb Channel Cat. My very first one!!! Not quite what I was going for, but I can hardly complain!

Nice fish US. It's great to get a report on Vancouver Lake, especially with a brute like that.

Sure as heck surprised me when I caught it. Saw lots and lots of carp swimming near the surface, but I didn't have anything to catch them with, but I want to head back sometime and put a pole in the water and see if I can't catch one of those.

Nice fish.
Many years ago we would rent a boat and fish where Lake River comes in... or by the mouth of Salmon Creek. Depending on the tides, the river could run both ways. I could never figure out how to predict it, but when the current was slow, the fish would bite like crazy and you could catch anything from rainbows to cats to sturgeon and panfish. It was insane for that hour or so.
Does anyone have the skinny on the current there? I'm coming back to try again after a 20 year absence and it would sure be great to catch it at the right time.
