As I fished the lake both days, I thought I'd combine the reports. I bagged fishing Sammamish this weekend as my neighbor was out Friday and said the Chinook numbers were still minimal. I later heard that the Muckelshoot Tribe had netted the North end of Lake Washington/Sammamish Slough. Saturday morning brought me 1 19" Cutt at the South End of Mercer Island before I started experimenting with other lures and methods. No other Cutts for the next 2 hours so I switched to Perch and spent the next 2 hours trying to sort through the Lakes infestation of sub 9" Perch. I quit after I had 6 keepers between 10" and 11" and as my fingers were hammered from releasing all those small perch, I called it a day.
Sunday I fished with my partner and hit up the North end of Mercer Island and were fishing by 7:00am. We quickly picked up a 14" Kokanee and a 17" Cutt and then it slowed down. We missed one takedown and managed to bring a huge fish to the boat which we determined was not a trout nor a Sockeye. This fish never broke the surface of the water, even while next to the boat, and while we were trying to make a positive ID, spit the hook. We both figured it was a Chinook, given the abundance of dark spots visible on its back. All of the fish were hooked 60' down on UV lures and we were marking fish and bait between 20' and 90'. We packed it in at 11:00am after getting no further action after 9:00am, which seemed to be when the clouds and the wind picked up.

right on nice fish my son's and I were out north of 520 by 6:00am , I landed 1 cutt 19" at 1.5lb and lost 1 pulled it up from 55' down. Is the lure by the kok. what you were useing ?do they seem to do well to? thanks snake7676

snake7676 - Good job on the fish! Hopefully that opens door to catching many more. The lure in the Koke's mouth was just the most convenient item at the time of the photo. Though I think it would work great, I don't want the fish and wildlife enforcement officers thinking I'm targeting sockeye so I haven't yet tried it in the Lake. I'll give it a shot once November rolls around.

can you fish the slough and if so what would you use?

bigbowkes - If you take a quick look at the regs on page 58 for the Sammamish river/slough you'll find your answer. It is open for selective gear fishing only, catch and release of trout and statewide rules for other gamefish. If you target salmon, expect to pay a hefty fine. I won't fish the slough for trout, but you can pull out some nice bass where it exits Lake Sammamish. Just get on the water before the dog park kicks into high gear, as it borders the off-leash dog area in Marymoor Park. I like using weightless and weedless plastics when fishing this area. Keep in mind your hooks must have the barb pinched down and the plastics must be unscented, no Berkley Power anything here! I haven't fished the slough where it dumps into Lake Washington, but my guess is that similar fishing conditions can be found there as well. The water in between is a very slow, shallow and warms up a great deal in the summer, so I leave it in peace.

thanks i was just wondering i dont fish that area at all really plus i dont really know what the slough is. Man those are some nice fish you got in that pic! How did they taste?!?

Thanks Salmon Slayer, he just squeaked in under the 15" max limit. Really he was a jack Sockeye as the fish had sea lice on it, you can make one out on its anal fin, I've caught quite a few this year. They taste so good I'd take them over the Cutts any day of the week.
