Well, I got excited with the recent reports on Pine and Beaver, so decided to try my hand at a little bass fishing. Got to the lake just after 5:30pm. A guy was coming off the lake and said he didn't have any luck. Looked like he was bass fishing. The wind died down right after I got out there and the water was calm. Very nice evening. Hit the north shore about mid-point first. Tried launching some curly tail grubs at the docks and lilly pads. Used green colors from chartreuse through dark green with silver flake using a jig head. Finally got a strike about 30 minutes later and missed it using chartreuse. Ran the grub through again and hooked it....12 inch perch. Switched to a rainbow x-rap plug and worked the lilly pads for another 15 minutes with no luck before heading back to the launch. Trolled the plug slow about 10-15 ft. down on the way back hoping to grab a trout, but no luck there either. Still had a few minutes before I had to leave, so put on a popper (bass color) and tossed it over to the lilly pads next to the boat launch. Immediately got sucked down. Pulled in a 1/4 lb LM. This one had a deformed mouth. Wish I had a camera. Looked like it's nose never developed, so the lower lip jutted out as normal, but the nose was recessed. Goofy looking, but a fish is a fish. Tried the popper a while longer with nothing else to show for it, so loaded up and left about 6:45. All C&R.
