I fished Lake Ki on Tuesday evening September 30th starting at 5:30 pm. It was calm, and water temp was 64.8 degrees. No one else fishing. I began trolling a 50/50 Dick Nite with red tip and out of the shoot I began getting bumps. I was actually surprised to get any attention as the water was warm and my last 3 outings to local lakes have netted no fish and no bites. I was receiving bumps or light bites in about 12 to 14 feet of water however there weren’t a lot of fish on the finder. When I moved out to about 28 feet of water the fish filled the finger screen and I put my presentation right in front of them, but not a bites at that depth. I switched to a Mack’s flash light and wedding Ring tipped with power bait and nothing. I also gave a green Woolley Bugger a try trolling through these schools of fish and nothing. In the last half hour before dark, I returned to the shallow water in front of the public launch and again got light bumps but I was unable to hook a fish. This lake in my experience has almost always had light biting trout in it. I’m not sure if it’s like a “fish rule” all trout agree to before entering this lake or what, but the light bite or “mouthing” the bait or lure seems to be the norm. Anyway, it was nice to feel a fish or two bite and maybe the next go around will net a few in for the pan. Great trip, poor fishing.

Sounds like you may have been marking perch. If you want a good meal might try a mini jig tipped with a glup product or piece of night crawler or piece of perch meat/ I like yellow/white or red/white jigs.

Good luck

Thanks Curt,

I didn't know there were perch in the lake but it makes obvious sense. I have fished this lake for years and found the trout often seem to just mouth the presentation making hooking them a challenge at times, so I guess I just assumed they were trout. I will toss a worm at them hopefully on my next 3 off and see what happens. Thanks again Curt.
