What a nice place to fish. I have read about Wentworth but have never been although it is only an hr. or so away. It is not on the Dickey River Rd. It was at one time in the ancient past. The road ends at a burn and beyond is the remains of a long forgotten logging rd.
After driving 4 hrs. through the woods dragging my boat, I stopped to check the boat and the local Fisheries guy pulled up and offered to lead me to the lake.. The Lake is actually only 30- 40 min. from the main rd.
The fishing was better than average. While on the lake, I met one of the locals who's Grand father had originally claimed the section and named the lake. He told me that they had planted ( Thrown in the lake) winter steel head from the local hatchery. He also said that there was a bunch of dead steelhead floating around soon afterward. (I assume that is were the story of 8 lb. trout developed. ) The lake is shallow and small, but does hold some 14" - 18' trout and a huge supply of sun fish.. We also caught salmon smolt that Fish and Game had supposedly dumped in the lake. Why?
