My son is home visiting so we decided to spend a day on Sprague Lake. The weather was nice, shirt sleeves and smooth water. But then any day without wind is nice on Sprague Lake. We left Spokane about 8:30 and returned about 5:00. A full day spent with a sharing a six pack and Subway sandwiches with my son. Life is good!
While life may be good the public boat launch is not. Because of low water it was much easier to get the boat in the water than it was to get it out. I give the boat launch just 2 stars. One star for being there and another just because I have seen worse (but not many).
Now the important stuff, the fishing. It was great. The fish were big plentiful. They bit often enough to keep things interesting, but infrequent enough for us to enjoy a whole day of fishing. We were using bait with small hooks that resulted in the fish usually swallowing the hook. Catch and Release was not really an option. The water temperature was 57 degrees so the algae bloom had decreased significantly from last summer. We caught all of our fish letting the boat drift between the island and the north shore.
In size the fish ranged from 14 to 18 inches with the largest one being just over 2 pounds. The largest fish of the day was caught just after this picture was taken. After all what kind of fish story would this be if I had proof of how large "the big one" really was.
