Was itchin for fishin, went to the puyallup river yesterday, but there was no fish. Even the fish surveyor didn't count any. So i figured i would try a lake. I was on the way to Ohop and decided to go to Clear Lake instead since i haven't been there before. When i arrived, it was raining and a bit breezy so i figured i would troll to the other other side then try to fish for some bass so i put on a sinking ex-caliber trout color crank bait it has same shape as a rapala just more shiny, then put on two big split shots about 4 ft. up and trolled fast. Not sure the speed was rowing. After about ten or fifteen min. pole starts bouncing before i could grab the pole a 15 inch bow was about a foot out of the water, was a pretty good fighter. i was hoping to release but i was bleeding bad so i kept it. that was that only fish for the rest of the time. i used all the usual stuff but no fish.
There was one other boat out there but i was never close enough to him to see if he caught any. Then he pulled in his gear and ran over to me and asked how i was doing, so i told him and he said that he was a guide and had been nailin the kokenee and he would take me out to get some. i said ok and went back to the boat launch and put all my stuff away and went out with him. right away had a take down brought it up to the boat and it was a small mouth about ten inch. let it go and kept fishin, right away again, fish on lost that one, and the next, and the next. He had his limit and i couldn't land any but they are fun to fight. I couldn't believe he was nice enough to take me out in his boat and get me into fish, he did everything except fight the fish, it was so weird just sitting there until a fish was on. That sure made my day. I think i will try to go back and get some myself. He was using down rigger at 25ft and a wedding ring with maggots.
