Got on the water around 1:00pm at the north end. The weather was perfect, 59 degrees, clear skies with a N.E. wind at 5 mph. I started working the east shore going down to the park on the south end and then going back up the lake on the east side. Very few fish were marked on the fish finder on the south end of the lake. Arriving back on the north end, I started reading fish again.
The lake has completed the fall "turn over". The surface temperature was 53 degrees. In the center of the lake, at a depth of 48 ft,, a very narrow thermocline appeared at 20ft. The water temperature at that 20 ft. level was 53 degrees also. I then took a bottom temperature and at 48 ft., it also was 53 degrees. The water was very clear with no algae present.
Upon returning to the north end around 5:00pm., there was a small chironomid hatch coming off. I then switched to my floating line and put on a tan colored soft hackle and casted to the swirls. I was able to land one nicely colored Brown Trout. Unfortunately, this 15" Brown was the only catch for me. Two friends that I was with stayed on the north end of the lake all afternoon and were a little more productive. Both were able to land a couple of nice Rainbows, with one in the 20" range.
Overall, it was a very relaxing and beautiful day. There were a lot of geese on the wing and also on the lake. That is a sure sign that winter in not too far away. Another season coming to a close.
