I was debating whether to try for blackmouth while soaking the crab pots or hit up the lake. The tides weren't really favorable for today so the lake it was. I started fishing the East Channel, Mercer Island side, across from Seahawks headquarters around 7:30am, I had spied a flock of Grebes and figured that they would be close to the bait. I started shallow, 20', and hooked a 14" bow on a spoon which was released. A couple of hours later I switched to a mini-squid and flasher combo and went deeper, 40'. I trolled further South and hooked a small, 10", Kokanee who really put up a good fight as I had it foul hooked. Needless to say this little scrapper was released and was the last fish I caught for the day. I ventured to the mouth of the Cedar River and trolled the area for a bit before calling it a day. The surface temp was 55 which also was the temp of the river water out of the Cedar. The lake had a large amount of vegetation floating about as well as some good sized logs and branches, so be careful out there. This made trolling a bit of a chore and prompted me to switch to using a downrigger for most of the day. Also, unbelievably, I managed to be treated to a up close display of slalom skiing not only while fishing the East Channel but also fishing near the mouth of the Cedar. I couldn't help but hope they would hit a log as they passed by me multiple times. I included a pic of the waters near the mouth of the Cedar that were mingling with the lake water. I was tempted to anchor and drift fish for a bit but there was just too much junk in the flow.

Right on ! My boy and I pasted you out there 2 times we were in our 14' Aluminum first time was on the east side of mercer island when we first got out there . Then on the south side right befor you went towards the cedar . He caught a 13" bow on the east side using pop gear and a wedding ring tiped with a worm , It put up a good little fight for him C&R .We were only there for 2hrs. At any rate it was a good 2hrs out on the lake.

Snake,

Good to hear that someone else caught something out there, it was definitely a perfect day for fishing the lake. I normally bring my FRS radios with me to see if any other WashingtonLakes members are out on the water, but alas they were forgotten and sitting on the table when I got back home.
