Cabin fever made the 100 mile drive from Kenmore seem like just driving around the corner to the grocery store! I've ice fished before but usually on smaller, more remote lakes. I was looking forward to stretching my legs and popping holes in the ice so much that I didn't let the $5 parking fee at The Cove dampen my spirits too much. The store was closed and looked like it had been closed for weeks. Thank goodness I picked up 2 doz worms at Joe's for $2.69 and had enough coins rolling around the floor to pay the fee. I was counting on getting some coffee and information though. For $5 there should have been some recommended fishing spots at the very least.
Got off to a slow start, trying to figure out a brand new lake. Ended up catching 3, smallish, 9"-14" trout just as it was turning dark, 5pmish. Popped in about a dozen holes on the cove side, the end with the cattails, not the smaller bay near the Cove's launch. No bites at all on the 8lb test single hook leader, 3 hours of fishin. Tied up a 3 hook 4lb florocarbon leader and had nibbles right away. These fish are definitely leader shy! I caught my fish in about 12'-15' of water.
I like to move around from spot to spot to locate fish, but I also love knowing a good spot. Fish Lake is pretty large in comparison to most lakes that I've ice fished. It may take me a few trips to find a good spot on the lake.
I expected to catch perch but was pleased to catch trout! I'd love to hear more details about this lake and how to fish it.

try blackmans lake in snohomish,good fishing,no ice,and no $5.00 cover charge.i cant believe they charge to park.i was there last summer and was kicked off the dock at dark just when the big ones were feeding,last trip ill make.

hey, I lived by fish lake for 5 years and i know that lake like the back of my hand, first i would start of by getting some swedish pimples you can order those online at fishusa.com, i use the 1/4 oz size in a holographic green and glow colors, definatley take the flippers off the lure and put the single hooks on them. As far as the lake goes, i fish for trout where the cove ends and starts going into the bigger part of the lake and sometimes in the cove, i try to stay in between 15- 20 feet of water. and if you want to catch perch go out to the middle of the lake. p.s. use worms with your swedish pimples.
