Left the house this morning in the snow. Got to Pass just before it started to get light out to find the lake covered in ice with the snow covering the ice. I stayed around the boat launch for a while before I noticed that there was some unfrozen water at the first turn off on the highway so I drove back to the turn off and launched my kayak. This was only my third time fly fishing so I didn't expect much action... just went out to get some more experience with my fly rod. trolled around for a while and noticed that fish were rising next to the ice so that's were I focused my trolling. I trolled for about an hour then tried to cast to areas I saw trout rising. My casting is still ugly (especially with frozen guides on my rod) so I'm sure I scared any fish in the area away. I rated today a one because I didn't get any fish (not even bites) but I saw at least ten rises in two hours so I'm sure a more experienced fly fisherman could have gotten some fish. I still had a ton of fun... as we all know the worst day fishing will beat the best day working anytime. Good luck out there...
