Got out to lake around 11:00 and walked out about 300 yards from the public launch. Found an area where there were a few holes that others had drilled the day before. Redrilled one of the holes and drilled a new one about 5 feet away. In this way, I could sit in one spot and fish one hole for a while and then the other without moving. Started with a swedish pimple and maggots and started jigging. In about 10 minutes I caught a bass about 8 inches long. Then I switched to the other hole and proceeded to catch several small perch. The bite was not furious but enough to keep me interested in sitting in that one spot. I switched to a while jig and maggot after the fish quit hitting the pimple. Fished at same spot till bout 3:30 and caught 3 more bass, 2 bullheads, 1 crappie and about 14 keeper perch. Also let several dink perch go back in the hole. Oh, yes, caught and released 2 sunfish and three grass pickerel. On the way back to the car, stopped at another hole much closer to the boat launch and proceeded to catch a couple more keeper perch.
All in all, it was a pretty good day. The sun was out most of the day and the fish were cooperating. It is hard to believe that in a month or so, I'll probably be bobbing around Amber with my pontoon boat fly fishing for trout. It's a tough job but somebody has to do it.

Saw several others out on the lake who did not fare too well. They must not have been holding their mouths right.

I've caught a few of those grass pickerels as well, trying to post a pic. Can't figure out how.

We were there Tuesday for about 2 hours. Did ok, got some nice perch. The ice is still at least 10-12 inches thick. Now worries there.
Here is a pict of a pickerel we caught a while back. There are definitely pickerel and not pike or muskies. They get up to 12 - 14 inches long at the most. Cool fish though. I caught them there back in the early 80's so they aren't new to the lake.
