With the promise of another glorious day of weather I just couldn't resist the calling of the Lake. I wanted to try a slightly different approach on the cutts and SlimySlab had agreed to join me in this endeavor. We had our lines in the water slightly before 9:30 and it wasn't long after that when our first and only fish of the day struck the cut plug herring that SlimySlab was dragging behind the boat. The fish was fairly long but looked a bit thin, possibly post spawn, and was released to be caught another day. Normally I fish for these beasts in water greater that 90' deep and I troll at a fairly good clip. Today we focused on water less than 60' deep and slowed down the troll a tad. The fish struck off the East Side of Luther Burbank Park, just shy of 30' down in about 50' of water. The remainder of the time we spent trolling across from Seahawks HQ and the in bay on the North end of Mercer Island. The amount of debris in the water increased as we traveled further South as did the tint of the water. We saw signs of the seasons first mini algae bloom but it appears that the South end of the lake has not yet fully recovered from the Cedar River's blow-out. The surface temps were around the 44 degree mark and the thermocline looked to be between 70' and 80' down. A bass club appeared to be enjoying the weather as well with a fair number of boats working the various East Channel points with varied success. With the company on board and weather we experienced I would rate this a five start day for fishing it just didn't end up being a 5 star day for catching and we headed in around 1:00pm.

As always you write great reports! Like I said Sunday, this warmer water and warmer weather could have the cutts in prime form come April.
Keep up on the variations on trhe Lake. I might be off and fish Friday??? JC aka SlimySlab
