WOW, dejavu...I lived in the house across the street from Deep Lake when Mount St. Helens blew in 1980. I used to take my boys across the street and throw in a little four man raft and we'd catch dinner. Oh, the memories....I fished this lake a couple years ago when a group of us had a party on Memorial day. It hasn't changed much. I don't know who the ranger is now, but in 1976, I got married in Enumclaw and my bride & I had a camper. I knew that Nolte was a park, so we drove there around 10 pm and parked. As we swept out our rice the ranger came out and informed me it was a day park only, then he took pity on us and said since we were the only ones there that if we left before 8 am to shut the gate and if after 8 to leave it open. I, too, used to use an f-4 frog flatfish to limit there. Enjoy it while you can and make as many memories while you can.
