Another great trip to Roses!
Looked like limits were being had by all! Popped a bunch of holes in the ice to locate the fish, once located it was easy pickings for 10"-12" rainbows. The fishermen that weren't doing too well were the ones using large jigs and such. The trick seemed to be keep it simple and keep it small. Just use a drop line with single #6 or #8 worm hooks, just enough bait to cover the hook, meal or earth worms. If you want to spice it up, tip it with a single egg in addition to the worn bit. I use a 6', 4-6 lbs, leader with 3 single hooks tied in at about 2' intervals and a split shot on the very end at the bottom of the leader to "feel" the bottom and adjust my depth from there. I caught trout at all depths top to bottom in 10' to 20' of water over the 2 day trip. Lots of people catching lots of fish! Didn't seem to matter where they were. I approach it with if I don't get some bites in the first 10-15 minutes in a new location, I just move to another spot and pop in another hole. Lots and lots of bites, kinda difficult to hook em. Being Valentines Day weekend the girlfriend spent the days at the nearby casino while I fished! Nearly a perfect weekend with both of us doing what we enjoy!
