FYI - You might want to check the rules for how many fish one may release that are caught on bait (only the daily limit in total whether released or kept). The reason of course is that studies have consistently shown that one can expect at least 30% mortality on bait caught trout released.

2/21/2009 8:23:00 PMwhen your fishing with worms its not counted under the bait rule. When you use power bait or other stuff like that its the first 5 fish kept or not and thats your limit but worms arent in the category soo your all good man. nice btw

2/21/2009 8:58:00 PMthe first 5 fish you catch count toward your limit even if they are let go when you are fishing with worms powerbait or any other bait. Bait is bait they don't classify it under different sections. Nice fish anyway just remember next time to use lures or keep the first 5 fish you catch with bait.

2/21/2009 9:24:00 PMI guess i should have been a little more clear.I caught my first 4 with a nightcrawler.Then i switch to a troutworm.One on the jighead and one on the other hook.When i'm ready to go, then i go back to nightcrawler to finish out the limit.All the ones on the trout worms were smaller.I like to use the orange/yellow color and also the natural color.Another thing that works well is to thread a trout worm onto the jighead,then slip it inside a little tube(like a crappie jig tube).When they are shallower i like to use 4# test with a #12 mosquito hook close to the weight(6"-8")and use troutworm,or with a power egg above the worm.It will float with that small hook.Just need to be ready or else they will swallow the hook.

2/22/2009 6:56:00 AMJust so everyone is clear on WDFW definition of "bait", if it has scent and/or flavor, yes, even if you spray some on, then it is considered "bait" whether real or artificial. So, if you're using a jig with any kind of scented/flavored "bait" (like Power Nuggets or trout worms) the rules as defined for "bait" apply, first 5 fish caught, whether kept or not, and you've met the requirements for a limit. If you want to C&R until you decide to call it a day, then you must not use any "bait". Using a jighead with a non-scented/flavored tube or worm would be legal. Urbanangler & crankbait42 were correct, The Redneck Emo is not.
Just want to make sure you don't find out the hard way on an otherwise nice outing. ;-)

2/22/2009 12:32:00 PMGreat Job! I'd love to know where the spot was but I won't ask. I find that when the water is cold like it is right now, it seems to take more than just putting a worm in their face. A few weeks back I fished Goodwin and managed one fish and that was with chumming. Did you chum or just stay on the fish and they were interested? Anyway, great job.
