A thorough skunking………..

Fished for 3 or 4 hours on Saturday. It was a little cool,though not “finger-numbingly” so, and the sun stayed out for most of the time. I had my son with me, so I couldn’t get too serious about it.(re-tying and untangling….though, methinks well worth the trouble) Mostly fished a 1/64th brown “Trout Magnet” jig tipped with Gulp Alive! wax worm under a slip-float at varying depths all along the park’s shoreline, including the dock. “Catfish”(my 7 y.o. son’s nickname) was fishing a half of a night crawler suspended two feet under a fixed float.
No bites.
The few people we managed to speak to weren’t having any luck either.

Catfish had endured as long as he could and was getting bored so, I threw the tackle boxes in the truck and tied on a 1/16th oz. “Blue Fox Spinner-Jig” in the pearl/translucent color and again, tipped it with a gulp/alive waxie and talked him into going for a walk.
Fished that with varying retrieves and speeds all along the north end of the park, including the duck pond, until my partner started showing signs of fatigue and had gone into “hyper-whine”. So, I packed up my rod and hit the 7-11 to filled him full of junk food for having been such a trooper.

I arrived at the park on Sunday around 11 a.m. It was overcast with brief sun breaks and intermittent “light” rain showers. A stiff breeze seemed like it was coming from the south and around 1:30 or so, brought with it a light,steady rain until about 4:30 when both wind and rained ceased.

I talked to a few people out on the dock when I first got there and they weren’t having any luck at all. Though I’d like to mention there is occasional reports of trout being spotted swimming near the boat house and boat ramp.

I fished the north end from the mouth of the duck pond to the dock with power bait(“red/white/blue”,”rainbow”, and “sherbert” with varying combinations of “white” power eggs and “shrimp scented- dark green” marshmallows….basically everything in my tacklebag).
I used a flourocarbon leader ranging from 6inches to 2 ½ feet. I even applied some “anise” gel to my hands when rigging up in hopes of masking my scent.(I don’t recommend this….it makes your hands greasy and sticky and makes your lunch taste like licorice….I’ll be sticking with fir boughs next time!)
Twards the end of the day I spoke to a couple of young guys on the dock who had been told by the guy in the boat house that the trout were probably feeding on “Bloodworms”.
I had used up all my nightcrawlers on Saturday and had forgetten my Gulp Alive! waxies at home so I immediately tied on a heavy “baithook”(#8-barbless….of course) to “sink” my “floating” powerbait to the bottom. Fished this set up for an hour and a half without result until about a quarter to six when I packed it in and went home without even a fish story.

I am going to “Google” “Bloodworms” as soon as I post this and try to re-calculate my approach.
