Thanks to Thrasher's earlier report, I had to see if there really were bass ready to bite. The weather was sure nice. No wind, sun shining, almost shorts weather...

Turns out that there was one bass ready to bite, how cool. Lots of firsts for me with this fish. First March bass, first bass in below 40 degree water, first bass of 2009, first bass in more than 20 feet of water. Picked up this fish on the drop shot.

The fish were still holding off the main migration routes to the spawning flats, holding on the firm silt bottoms just outside of the organic muck near main points. I do think I saw some fish starting to cruise around the vegetation with the nice weather. While only one was ready to bite, there are numbers of fish to keep an eye on in these locations as the water warms.

Even though we did get one to the boat, it was mostly a day of casting practice this early in the season :)

nice smallie.was out today cought some crappie few perch and 1 walleye. were and on what is my secret sorry.had some fools smokin dope at the launch had a tent set up wouldnt move when i tried to get boat in.love fishin this lake early season and nights but im just about done with the idiots.anyhow enough crying.try a smoke copper flake tube i kill them bass out there with it.

Tell me about it kalous1, the worst launch behavior of non-boaters that I have ever experienced is at this lake. I don't mind a new boater having trouble on the ramp occasionally but I can't stand the people with no respect of what the ramp is for. We had a guy leave his line parallel to the ramp and stood there the whole time my buddy was trying to back in the trailer. Meanwhile, there's only one other guy on that huge fishing platform that they built and no one on the east end. I know that they are jealous but man it can be frustrating.

prohawk what end of the lake where you at? Nice , great size for a liberty smallie. Can't wait to start fishing did u use a tube or plastic worm?
