Salmonking
3/22/2009 7:08:00 PMThanks for the report. I would have been out there myself, but my oldest had baseball practice. I might be out there tomorrow afternoon. The trips should be in there in a few weeks to come.

As the third Saturday in April gets closer, I find myself chomping at the bit to go fishin. I actually want to go fishin all the time but today I definitely felt the need to just get out for a few hours. I’m not much for bank fishing but wanted to go somewhere close for an hour or two to just wet a line. I chose Gissberg as it was recently planted and some of the reports were good. I arrived at 12:30 pm and walked a short distance from the east end, on the north side, of the south lake. I started out with a green rooster tail spinner and on the third cast landed a very small plant, maybe 6 inches. After about 15 minutes with no strike, I switched to a brass triple teaser and caught two more in maybe 15 minutes followed by maybe 15 more minutes without a bite. I switched to a white rooster tail spinner and caught 7 more. All were very small and released unharmed except one that inhaled the hook and began to bleed so I had no choice but to harvest him. He was fried up and enjoyed prior to writing this report, all 4 bites of him. It was 45 degrees outside, no wind, and it rained off and on. There was one gentleman in a boat trolling. I saw him catch one fish right in front of me when I first arrived. There were also a few guys in float tubes fly fishing. I saw one of them catch one fish. I am sure the guys on the water caught others I didn’t see, but my experience was fairly consistent once I found the color they were interested in which as I mentioned was white. It was nice to get out for a couple hours and catch a few fish. While I was there I did see a guy on the east shore catch a few bottom fishing. He left before me and I believe he may have limited.
