It was March 31st when fishing buddy Bruce M. and I launched the old Bass Tracker onto Kitsap Lake to look for largemouth bass. It was very warm and sunny. The temperature sored to 80 degrees and there was almost no breeze. I was casting a 1/4 ounce Jig with a black Gator Tail worm with blue tail as a trailer. I only hooked one bass but it was a respectful 17 inches and 3 pounds. Okay, Okay by now you all are thinking the old geezer has lost his marbles in all this chilly weather. Wait! -- I still have a few marbles - The story is true - It was on March 31st - The temperature did soar to 80 degrees ------ but the year was 2004. Temperature information source is the local paper - the "Kitsap Sun."
Note: This black jig has helped me catch several nice bass on Kitsap Lake including a 6 pound 12 ounce lunker on May 3, 1986 while fishing with son Donald and a 7 pound 10 ounce lunker on April 25, 2001 while fishing with neighbor Mike LaCombe.
