I think it's a rule, you have to fish Lake Samish if you get near Whatcom County?? Well I decided to fish out my afternoon on this excellent body of water today, and I'm glad I did, you can almost always count on the smallies to bail out a slow weekends fishing! Hit my favorite spots once again, and was not disappointed. Water temps got as high as 52.5 degrees, and the smallies were up in about 8 feet of water. My best luck came on a Rapala DT 6 on a slow retrieve. I also caught fish on a jerkbait, jig, and a carolina rig. The biggest was only 3.5lbs, but several were 2 plus and one or two dinks for a total of 14. All in all it was a good time. The bass were on scattered wood cover, only a couple were under docks. One largemouth followed my crankbait, but didn't commit before seeing the boat. No complaints here! The sun felt nice, and the fight even nicer, seee I told you in my last Wiser report, Whatcom County has it going on!!
Lots of boat traffic, small boats, not the hoards of skiers you get in the summer here. Well, I won't get a chance to fish again until next Sunday, as I got called in for extra duty this week...oh well, I love my job so it doesn't hurt that bad, and the overtime puts me one step closer to my new Ranger!! Woohoo!
