Opted to avoid the clutter of opening weekend, instead my buddies and I left early Monday morning (well early for 4 20yrs) about 10. Waitts has always been like a 2nd home for me, it has never disappointed. This lake isn’t tricky, it’s not about finesse it about the waiting game. These fish are always going to eat worms and powerbait. Its just a matter a presenting it correctly, usually about 4 feet of leader under a stick bobber. Almost as soon as we get on the dock (winonna by far the best resort there) it begins pouring rain. It looked like something out of the deadliest catch one guy on the dock said. Being 20, extremely stubborn and excited to cure my spring fever, we decide to fish and wait it out. I’m glad we did, I’d say with in 5 minutes I hooked in to my first fish (pictured) gave me a great fight, it was obvious it had been hooked before. After a few minutes of solid fighting on an ultra light rod he was netted. The action continued all day. You could sit there and catch 8-10 inch bows all day. Between the 3 of us we easily caught our combined limit in just a few hours. On a sad note I would like to personally apologize to 4th member of our group, considering he sat through over 2 hours of freezing rain in shorts, yet still couldn’t manage to land a single fish. Sorry Lope. All and all another great day at Waitts.
