Had some time to burn so hit the lake at about noon. Overcast with a slight drizzle, water temp around 59 degrees. Launched at the public ramp and casted toward the first rise I saw right past the ramp. 11" trout gobbled the 16# Chironomid like it hadn't had a meal in days. It was fun bringing him into the boat (already decided that I was keeping two for dinner) being as I left the net at home and all my flies are barbless. He fell off the hook just as he cleared the side of the boat so all was well. Fished the small potrtion for another few hours with no luck, tried several other flies letting the wind give me a very natural drift. Moved into the larger portion of the lake and decided to park it between the islands and try some power bait off the bottom. Used green/black Nitro bait on a 14# egghook 48" off the bottom. Got nibbles and my bait stolen every time I threw it out for an hour or so. About 1630 hrs, the lake turned to glass and they started rising again so I went back to the Chironomid and worked my way to the far side of the lake. That nasty cold front blew in out of nowhere and I was drenched within a few minutes. Decided to fish my way back toward the boat ramp and if the weather didn't improve, that was it for me. By the time I got back over there, wind had died down and fish were rising. Hooked into a nice fish, at least 13-14" and fat on that original chironomid and the no net in the boat thing worked against me this time. Lost him and decided to call it a day.
