Decided to focus on bass this morning. Got to the lake at 5:30. Outside temp was 44 degrees and a light drizzle started just as I got there. Barometric pressure was 30.34 when I started and surface water temp was showed 52. I was the only person on the water. Started fishing with a dropshot using a chartruse colored worm. Casting into the docks and shores was getting me nothing, so looked at the fish finder and marked an arc near the bottom in 18' of water. Cast out behind the boat and moved my dropshot through where I'd been and got a hit. Couldn't get another rise, so moved on. No more hits on my worm, so moved to a perch Shadrap. Tried that in various areas and presentations. Nothing. Then tried a grub on a jig head. Saw another fish arc near the bottom around 15', so ran a chartruse grub over that fish and got a really nice strike, but no hook up and couldn't get another hit after that. Moved back over the area with the fish finder and the hole was empty. Tried this "hunt and fish" method for a while using different colored grubs, worms, senkos on jig heads and dropshot style with no more luck. The rain let up after and hour, so I moved back into the docks and tried a jointed rapala and grubs with no effect. Saw a couple large fish suck things off the surface in next to shore, so figured they were bass. Tried using a top-water popper and still didn't get any action. Quit after 3 hours and trolled the jointed Rapala back to the launch picking up one rainbow trout on the way.
