Well, not a great afternoon. The patterns of the last two weeks left me fishless. Other than the two smallies in the pic. Those two were nabbed in about a five minute span on a rattle bait. Outside of those two, the big girl was was full of eggs at 3-4, today was tough for us. The water was from 56 to 53 degrees on the surface. Medium winds and mostly sunny skies.
I didn't see a Largie all day. And with as much sight based fishing as I do that makes a big impact on my confidence level. There was at least one boater that had it sorted out. My partner spoke with a man on the ramp that put a limit plus 2 in the boat during the same time. All largies. My partner's fishing ethics are impeccable however so he refrained from inquiring what that gentleman might have been using.
On that note, I need to praise and complain about a certain bait that has caught me these and many other fish this spring. Rapala's new Clackin rap is a great bait. It's caught me my biggest fish of the spring and the most overall. However, it's is also the most expensive Rapala I have ever purchased and the quality / durability leaves something to be desired. Scratches, bent hooks, and even the eye fell off one of them tonight. Not what I would expect from the masters of the crankbait, but it does hit the big fish.
