5/13/2009 4:37:00 PMIt looks like there are quite a few Chinook in Lk Chelan. Are the numbers growing? Why? Is it the resource (Shrimp and Kokanee) that are helping their #s? Is this a hatchery thing?
Also, Knowing that you work in the fisheries field, I wanted to get your opinion on a bacteria or parasite I have seen on Kokanee that I've caught out of Lake Sammamish. There seems to be lesions on the fish with brownish wormy looking parasites. I noticed the Kokanee have been jumping and breaching on the top of the surface as if they were trying to get rid of an itch or get away from a fish. Ithought this was unusual. The Kokanee of Lake Sammammish are large 15" or so and there aren't a whole lot of "HUGE" fish that would chase them in the middle of the lake. Would you know what this bacteria is and if it will kill the fish? As you may or may not know, the Lake Sammamish Kokanee is an Endangered Specie and protected. This year there seems to be lots of them which I thought was encouraging, but I am discouraged by seeing the parasites. Also, last year, I caught several Sea Lamphrey like fish in LK Sammamish. I wanted to show WDFW the eels, but they managed to fall through my Live well plug hole. I meant to close it. I felt terrible about that. Are Lamphreys a problem or perhaps a cause of this Kokanee problem?
On another note, I'd like to come up and tangle with "Walter" of Rufus Woods which you fought a couple weeks ago.. Is the fishing good there right now?
As always, I look forward to hearing from you Joe! thanks for your reports.
