5/18/2009 11:39:00 PMG man and hawk. Long should be really good this Memorial weekend, (if you can avoid all the jet skiers.) Some of the tree laydowns down by the Lil' Spokane confluence produces big smallmouth and some nice crappie for me this time of year. My favorite crappie bait on Long is a 2.5" Smelt Berkley Gulp minnow on a 1/32 oz canyon lure eyeball jig. Thanks for the heads up on the shallows by the resort. TJM

5/19/2009 7:58:00 AMJigmiester, Do you fish at the confluence of the spokane and little spokane or are you farther down? Those berkley minnows are great we use them for mac fishing and walleye.

5/19/2009 11:43:00 AMI read this report and got all excited. So I launched the boat right after work yesterday at 5:15pm. I did do well with 2 bass, 2 perch and 3 crappie. The crappie were around 9 inches as well as the perch. (Not bad but not big) The 2 bass were both dinks. I could not find a red house on the far bank? But the fish we caught were in about 10 feet of water and the water temp was 49-54 degrees. I did not brave the flats in front of the resort. I have a 18.6 ft Starcraft and was not sure if I should put her in that shallow water.

5/19/2009 11:57:00 AMHey toadwater, if you come down stream from the spokane house launch it puts you right out in front of the old 9 mile resort,it riverise state park now. you will see the bouy markers in front go to the last marker 8 to 10" there alot of the big smallies are right around that bouy, if you look down from the last bouy you will see a red house with a little white dock, theres a channel there and a drop off, we usally start at the bouy and drift through that whole area, very productive those big crappie hang out there in about 10" theres a drop from 7" to 11" right off that dock youll see them stacked in there on your graph. if you continue to drift down about 50yrds. youll see part of a cars undercarriage "i Think" on shore right out from that is very good too.

5/19/2009 12:01:00 PMalso it seems to be that a yellow and white crappie jig is the ticket. we used 1/8 oz tipped with crawler,they bite very light so a slow jig on the bottom works best.

5/19/2009 2:37:00 PMHawkins75: Thanks for the advice. I will try that next time out and don't worry I dont keep any big smallies. So they will be there for you to catch next time. We fished the slack water in the little canal by the custom homes and across the lake near each of the brush piles. It was tough fighting the current and a bit scarry in the shallows around the brush piles. It would go from 10 feet to 3 feet instantly! Did you fish any of the flats upstream from the resort? I have never went up in there because I have seen several boats beached/stuck in the middle of the lake. Is the area you fish all downstream from the boat ramp at the resort? Also, do you know when the resort will reopen? I know..a lot of questions but thanks for your time. lol!
