Decide to take the kayak out and do some paddling around the lake and enjoy the sun. I had to through a pole in with me a couple pieces of gear because it’s a cardinal sin to go to the lake and not get a line wet. I paddled all the way around the lake casting here and there and caught a couple dinks under the docks. It was starting to get late so decided to dedicate about 30 minutes to an hour on just fishing before I left because I wanted to a fish to pull me around in the kayak and that’s exactly what happened. I was only hooking up with dinks and got a phone call so I decide to answer it and of course as soon as I do that my rod doubles over. So I have the phone tucked in between my shoulder and ear, one hand on the pole the other on the reel and the fish pulled me crashing into the dock. I managed to get a hand on the dock still not seeing the fish which was ripping line off the reel like crazy and gave a good shove to get back out off the dock. At this point I get the fish to come out from under the dock and see it is a nice smallie probably over 3.5 pounds closer to 4 and then crash he pulls me into the dock. Don’t forget I still have the stupid phone in between my shoulder and ear doing every thing I can not to give it a bath and land this beauty. So I gave another good push with my hand to get back off the dock and not cut the line and luckely the fish decides the dock isn’t working for her either and then came into the open water. So I played the fish for another minute or so because I didn’t want to bring it in green. We both decide it was time for me to get my hands on her and release her for another day. When I brought her to the kayak she was about 19 inches and fairly heavy. Sorry for the bad pic but its not that easy taking a pic after a fight like that with a cell phone in a kayak. I sure do enjoy the hog hunting though and it was worth all the effort.
