It was our first 5 star day of the year. Don't you just love spring bass fishing!
All in all the three of us probably landed close to 35 or 40 bass ranging from under a pound to the 5-10 monster that Brian hooked up with. Lots of bass in the 2 pound plus range once we established the good spawing locations on the lake. We spent the morning on the far end across the land bridge, the prop was throwing lots of mud on the way over. We even lost water pressure for a moment, be careful.
Turns out, that side had all the dinks for us. Fishing was fast but the bigger fish didn't turn on until we were in the nice gravel flats that had the bedding bass. The winds calmed down around 11:00 and the fishing was excellent. Let's see what worked: swim jigs, spinnerbaits, grubs, poppers, and of course the bait of the day was the SENKO. We even pinned a couple nice rainbows on the senkos.
Keep in mind, this is a selective gear lake. Single barbless hooks only. That works just fine with plastics! You can use a motor however and I apologize to the BLM and the other boaters that day, there is a 10mph speed limit clearly marked at the launch (I didn't see that...)
Last little details for those still paying attention. Water temps were below 70 degrees. The water was very clear, bottom visibility to 8-10 feet. There were about 7-8 other boats max on the water joining us but there were definitly plenty of bass to go around, have fun!
