Took my 3 year old fishing Saturday evening at Kapowsin.
Talked to another father at the sporting goods store in Orting about Kapowsin and he told me to try using meal worms. I put one on my sons' line and cast it for him. Before I could get one on my hook he said "dad, my bobber's going under". He caught 6 blue gill before I got my first. Then he made me proud. I have always set the hook for him and have had him reel it in. Saturday, he got one all by himself. We caught around 25 fish, (blue gill, perch and one small mouth bass), in an hour and a half, and although none were big enough to take home, it is all worth it when you see your kids' face light up when they got a fish on their line.

AWSOME report Ironmike, thanks for sharing the adventure. it is great to hear stories of parents taking the time to introduce the lil ones to the sport of fishing and on a level they can understand and Enjoy. Good luck with all your future adventures.

is this from the public dock, or andys dock, or a boat? I can't wait to take my son to Kapowsin but boating that lake scares me. I only boat it with my brother... i don't even take old men out there!

Awsome post!
Strogest memory I have of my Father was being about 5-6 yrs old taking a long walk from the house to a hidden pond in the woods and having a cheap pole with no tip and no reel, only about 6'ft of line and a hook! Then Him telling me to catch my own bait (green tree frogs and salamanders) and filling up a 5 gal bucket with perch and crappie, and one LMB so big it pulled me into the water. Probably the fondest memory I have of my childhood, and will be for your son also!
(DUSTIN) Yea I feel ya on it being a scary lake, But its always worth boating....just stick to aluminum, and always have a buddy and an oar thats solid enough to push off the stumps when ya'll crawl up on one!
Good luck and have fun everyone!

LOL! my brother and I watch for stumps like HAWKS! but one winter when we were duck hunting a stump got by us and before we knew it we were on a stump teeter totter!! (aluminum boat!) All I could think about was how i was going to protect my new Mossberg from taking a dump in the drink!
