1st time at American Lake. Fished from ~5-7PM. Traffic was a headache to get there. Launched at the new boat launch. $10!!!!!!
Anyways, we were targetting whatever will bite, but I had a feeling we'll do better with bass. So we headed towards the south end of the lake and in relatively shallow water. ~15ft and casting towards shore.
I'm rigged with a 1/8 football jig with a 3" grub. The GF has a 1/4 Kastmaster on.
I caught a small what I think is a rock bass after a couple of casts. Smaller than my hand. Threw a few more casts around that area until we had to move, was getting too close to shore. So we went a little further and I think we got to the south end boat launch. There's 2 little islands to the left of the launch, if you're standing on shore.
We drift and fish between those 2 islands for a bite. I caught a couple more small rock bass. Then all of a sudden, got a big bite! Landed a nice strong 16" SMB.
The GF was getting made so she made me put on a jig and grub for her too.
Still between the 2 small island, I see a fish boil close by. Casted towards it and landed another nice SMB. A little over 17".
We moved around and kept fishing the shallows. The GF finally caught a couple of small rock bass. I caught a few more of those also.
I eventually put on a kastmaster and roostertail while circling back on the west side of the lake. No bites on those.
So 2 nice SMB, and a bunch of rock bass... i think. Good times.
