June 6 & 7 was the free fishing days allowed by WDFW. I choose Sun Lakes State Park as it is a center of a wealth of quality fishing locations. If I could have chosen the weather as well, we would have had a lot better weekend. I noted a 2:30 AM setting of a full moon Saturday and awoke at 4:30 to 20-30 MPH winds. We started at the south end of Blue Lake hoping to find a sheltered bank by noon we were back to Park Lake having tasted very little action and only two 10 inch Trout that we could claim caught and released. Someone had the bright idea to try Jameson Lake for the afternoon. I donated a setup to the ever increasing weed growth and surrendered. The 25 mile drive was not a total waste as I enjoyed the delight of my daughter in law getting a close look at a female and fawn mule deer. The wind had only diminished to a low roar the next morning, so we stayed on the East side of Park Lake. Fishing the bottom, I found the fish bite was very soft but at least it was action. We netted a few for a meal but the highlight of the day was the 3+ lb trout that was my daughter in laws first fish. I saw few fish caught during the day but some were in the 20 inch range. I would have liked to see the one that snapped my four lb leader but all I caught was in the 12 to 15 inch average. Sunday sunset come with a torrent of rain and 40 mph winds, a perfect end to the week end dominated by the weather that saved a lot of fish from the creel.
