I needed to get some pics of the launch area on Roses, so when Cindy got off work We hooked up the boat, since we were going to drive to the lake anyway. We got to Roses around 5:30 PM, shot a few pics, then launched. Went to the toulies on the opposite shoreline from the boat launch and started casting our usual jig arrangement. Yellow Nymphs with glitter specks seemed to be working good this evening. Cindy would tip the jig with one nugget of white Crappie nibble. Couldn't keep the bluegill off the hook. Osprey were hitting the water within 100 ft of the boat trying to pick up the bluegill, and were quite successfull. We picked up 6-8 LMB up to 14 inches or so. C&R on the LMB. Saw some nice bass cruising the shallows, but didn't target them. Spoke with one fellow who had been targeting the bass, and hadn't caught any large ones today, but mentioned he had done well earlier in the week. A beautiful display of lightning over the mountains about sundown, with spectacular hues of color on the horizon. Just a great way to spend the evening. Removed a mess of blugill from the livewell, introduced them to "Whack-A-Billy", broke out the electrick fillet knife, and we ended up with a Gallon Zip-loc of fillets to take home. Fish fry on the way.
Right now would be a flyfishing dream if a person enjoyed Panfish, as a 7 - 10 inch bluegill can put up a good battle on a 3 wt. Since my ultralite rod is 10 ft, It provides an evenings enjoyment for me but I need to tie up some bouyant flies and do some surface flyfishing for the lil buggers. Not as electriafying as a LM hitting top water, but I still get a kick out of it.
