Our lines hit the bottum at 9:14 in front of Granite Point and the first fish hit at 9:19, it was the wife with the first fish of the night, a nice little crappie. A buddy of mine landed the next fish at 9:40, it was a little 16" mack that costed him a hook in the hand while pulling the fish from the net. That was the first time I had ever seen a whole #8 glo hook, shaft and all inbeded in somebody. At first he tried to pull it out using his fingers but the barb was catching every which way he would pull, push, twist and turn it, so he grabbed the needle nose and went to work under the clip on lamp finaly popping it out after a few minutes of grunting and growning. Although it looked like it hurt, it was kinda funny. We fished for about another hour before I called the game do to lightning. We were targeting silvers but never got one to hook up, oh well next time we'll try the north end of the lake, I here thats the place to be right now. Im heading to Deer Lake next weekend to try jigging for macks. Ive never done this before so any hints or pointers I could get would be greatly appreciated and the gesture itself would not be forgoten. Good luck out there everybody!

Step 1. If you have sonar find the big schools of silvers on Deer and you will see larger fish holding beneith them. Step 2. Drop your jig or glow minnow to the proper depth. Step 3. Set the hook! Good luck out there........I hear it has been a bit tough.

deer has been pretty much a dead zone, there are a few being caught, mostly trolling. I have a friend who fishes it every weekend and he's about to give up on it. Loon on the other hand is really starting to get hot, if you want macks and such stick to the southern end.
