Made the 70 mile run to Marshall for the 1st annual Eastside Rendezvous. Met some great forum members, missed meeting a couple others, and got some fishing time in on a very nice lake.
We trolled with downriggers using pop gear (baby cowbells) and roostertails, most effective color for us was even, we each caught one on a black/chartreuse and a full pink roostertail spinner. Netted one 12" cutthroat, and lost another at the boat. Seems I need to work on my knot tying skills too! We probably would have done better if'n I wasn't re-learning how to use my downriggers! Hahaha!
I marked a lot of fish around 35' - 50' and had set the gear at 50'. We didn't hook up before lunch, so after lunch we went back out and this time I set the gear at 35'. That, and a slightly slower trolling speed (1.2mph) seemed to work. I would have trolled even slower, but there was a breeze blowing making it hard to control the boat at that slow speed - not enough thrust to keep the ProV going where I wanted.
No matter, beautiful day, lots of sun, quiet, serene setting, great company (my wife and yellow lab), and I wasn't working the day away. :-)
