Had a few minutes to kill tonight so I decided to wet my line in Lake Union for the first time. I was directly underneath the Aurora bridge on the North side of the lake. I was shocked to catch a little smallmouth on the first cast. I only had about 10 minutes to fish and had a couple of small lookers follow my senko up to shore, but only caught the one.

Although these fish were dinks it got me thinking that maybe I should spend some time fishing this lake. Is anyone willing to share info on where to fish this lake?

I did not know Bill Dance lived in WA..j/k

Bill- fish any structure you find around lake Union/WA. I like to find rock points and drop offs for the smallies..crank bait it up!

Check past reports. There are a couple of guys on this site that fish Lake Union a lot, and they have been very generous with info.

Fish the whole area along from the Fremont bridge going West along the canal. (walk the burke gillman trail) Also fish teh same area along the Queen Ann side. Also there is a dock located right across the street from JIllians pool hall on Westlake.

Just keep moving. As one who tries to fish Union when I can because prospects are decent from the shore, I have observed that fish of the same size tend to hang out together. This is not a fact, just an observation. When you start catching more bass there, you might notice this too.

So keep on moving until you find bigger fish. I have't posted it yet, but the Wednesday week of Father's Day, I caught five smallies, 2 with greater than 2 lbs, and Sat., 7 bass, 3 of which were at or near 3 pounds, and Father's Day, 8 bass and all but one were less than 1 pound. Bigger fish can definitely be had.

I have had a lot of success with 3" senkos lately, wacky rigged on the drop shot. Go figure.
