Since i blew my knee apart in May, i figured I would go fishing during Hoopfest instead this year. I decided to head to Silver so I could check out the new launch and fishing pier. Let me say, the State has really done a fantastic job updating the facilities at Silver. It went from one of the worst public launches in the county to one of the best. 2 boat launches are split by a very nice and long dock, and they even graded the launch so you don't have to get 4 tires wet to get your boat off the trailer anymore. the fishing pier is also beautiful, and i would guess that it now offers one of the best places to catch a muskie from shore in the state. i've seen a few in that area before so it's only a matter of time.
anyways, as far as the fishing was concerned, it was a slow day. water temps ranged from 67-70F, with a steady wind blowing from the south that made boat control around the docks somewhat of a chore. the bass are completely off the beds and the bluegill are now up on them; there is a million bluegill in this lake, i must have seen over 100 beds. the "pattern" was docks in 10-12 feet of water on the shady side, but I had to flip about 40 docks to get 3 keepers in the boat, so it wasn't much of a pattern. Really had to work the docks over too; one bass came on my 5th or 6th pitch to the same dock and another came on my 2nd pitch. Also missed a baby muskie that hit my frog next to the boat, and got bit off by another one of unkown size under a dock.
