Here's the report from my our yearly trip to Chelan. We were there 7/3 to 7/10 and I fished for a couple of hours 4 of the mornings. There were a couple of really windy days during the trip.
Kokanee - I forgot to bring my white corn with smelly jelly, but tried using Fire Corn and Power maggots. Only trolled for maybe 3 hours total early in the mornings. Marked a lot of kokes in Mill Bay but didn't get a single bite. Tried from 20 to 65 feet down. Tried the usual wedding ring spinners in a variety of colors with 4/0 dodgers or Mac Flashlites.
Lake Trout - took my bro-in-law Tom out and got him his first laker on a jig. Nothing really big this year, only fish up to about 8 pounds. There were lots of single fish on Mac Bar, but we didn't get many bites there. The shelf on the uplake tip of Wapato Point was excellent for us this year. It always had a bunch of fish on it and we had lots of bites there. Heard one of the guides was going for smaller but more plentiful fish along the Monument. Tried over there for the first time and found a ton of 2-4 pound fish that were really aggressive. I sometimes saw them leave the bottom as the jig was falling and hit it on the initial drop (Lowrance depth sounder on 4x zoom). Very cool to watch! It was also hard to fish up by the Yacht Club this year due to the current and the wind, but the guides were trolling in that area.
Bluefin - I never got around to pulling the boat and trying Roses, but I did drive over and check it out - I see what you mean about the dropoff on the ramp. Thanks for the info. Maybe next year!
