Went looking for the Rock Bass rumored to be in here on Saturday. I did find them, though in niether impressive size or number.
I did however, discover a phenominal Pumpkinseed fishery. They are quite numerous and in decent sizes and will hit on just about anything presented to them, though the old-fashioned worm and bobber seems to work best.
The water is uber-clear and most of your approaches will be sight fishing as they are gaurding thier nests right now and are hanging out pretty shallow.
There are also some small Bluegill and (smaller) Largemouth present as well. These respond well to small inline spinners.
I did spot some decent sized to exta- large Largemouth on occasion, though I couldn't entice them with anything I had.(just starting to take an interest in Bass fishing).
Sequalitchew creek at the far end of the lake(below the fish ladder) is also filled with largemouth, though it's really difficult terrain to fish. Beyond the creek is a promising-looking swampy area filled with salamanders and beaver dams that I've yet to fully explore.
So, if you've got small children you'd like to entertain, or like me and have an inexplicable urge to intentionally target small, hard fighting fish, then it's well worth the hassle to obtain the day pass and range pass(both free) to get on post and check these waters out.
